Giving Thanks on a fall day

The sound of cars in the rain and the gleaming droplets everywhere.
The feeling like the holidays are approaching.
A hot cup of the tea of good tidings.
Looking forward to seeing you (and perhaps a sausage and pepper sandwich) tonight.
Memories from NYC:
That security guard at the Met and that security guard at the Natural history (83rd and Amsterdam, Peruvian Chinese).
Seeing Dinosaurs. (And the fact that they are no longer around).
Ducking into that Turkish Deli, eating swordfish and salads while watching the city hurrying towards the subway in the rain.
Meeting Dominique's eyes as I was reading at her wedding.
Dancing with you. Repeatedly.

Thanksgiving after Three Dance Midterms

Someone (normal) to come home to.
My memories of NYC:
The walk past Macdonald's, Pete's Diner, that breakfast place, Casa Romana and the produce market, up the stairs to the 40th and Bowery stop of the 7 train. The sound of that train on warm nights with the window open.
The subway musicians: flute, sax, beat box, violin, mariachi,  keyboard and jazz singer and those who could use a bit more practice before sharing their noise in a hot crowded subway.
The dramatic clouds and watching a rainy city slosh past from indoors.
The serenity of the conservatory garden in Central Park, growing beneath the watchful eye of the gray garden cat.
The elusive dipped soft-serve trucks and the ubiquitous silver hotdog and grill carts with bright umbrellas and soft pretzels.

Thanksgiving after a day in lower Manhattan

Eloise the Turkey in Battery Park.
The cool breeze on the Staten island Ferry.
The quiet cemetery at Trinity Church and the mouth-watering fragrance of the food market next to it.
Happening on a music rehearsal and meeting a friend for river-side sushi.
Street-food: sausage and pepper sandwich, roasted corn and zepolles.
And someone to share them with.
Finding a gas-lit park on a warm evening and getting home just before a thunderstorm.

Thanksgiving in Queens

Yesterday:
My first NY bagel.
Being offered a seat on the subway.
My pumpkin and red velvet cupcakes from Magnolia Bakery.
The soaring arches at St. Patrick's Cathedral and the dim mosaics in St. Bartholomew's.
The blinking brightly-colored madness of Times Square and the calm greenery of Bryant park.
The ceilings of the NY Public library and the Mary Wollstonecraft Portrait there.
The giant sidewalks of Park Ave and the little sparrows greedily eating the chrysanthemums there.
The golden Prometheus in Rockefeller center and the Lego Atlas in the Lego Store.
My fellow traveler.

Thanksgiving with a new haircut

The back of my neck.
Silly cat photos.
Your hand on my waist.
Dance class.
Feeling lighter.
Tomatina.
Laughing while waxing.

Thanksgiving before going to the dentist

Toothbrushes and toothpaste.
Dental floss sticks.
The sudden preponderance of hummingbirds and their shrill, other-worldly calls.
Having more time than I thought.
Cuddled sleeping.
Looking forward to your return.
